The National Intermediate & Masters Cross-Country championships
Date: 9/2/08
The National Intermediate & Masters Cross-Country championships were held in ideal weather conditions today in Piercetown Co. Wexford. The course proved to be a testing one for the athletes with numerous tough climbs. Togher had an Intermediate mens team in action and they performed well to take 6th place in the team event. The team were missing a few athletes but performed admirably. The team was led home by a great run from Eoin O’ Sullivan in 26th place. Kieran Ryan followed him home in 35th and the run of the day came from Peter Fennell coming 38th in his first race back after injury. Shane Coffey in 51st place completed the team scoring. Other team members to run well were Dan Weaver in 66th place and Donal Coakley in 82nd. Well done to all the athletes.
In other club news, Robert Heffernan is spending ten days at a training camp at altitude in Guadix and he has said that his training is going really well. Robert is training with Pacquillo Fernandez and Illya Markov in Spain and races soon in Mexico over 20km. Hopefully he can continue in this fashion and compete at his best in Beijing in August.
Also this week a group of the clubs young distance runners will travel to Banna Beach Co. Kerry for a three-day training spell with coach Steven Macklin. The majority of the group are training for the up coming All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country championships in Loughrea Co. Galway on March 8th. A report and photos will follow later in the week.
