Munster Junior & U23 T&F

The Munster Junior & u23 T&F championships were held at a windy C.I.T track on bank holiday Monday. Togher athletes were to the fore taking home many medals. First up were the walkers in the u23 mens 5 km walk. Here Mark Dineen and Tim Healy were taking part in their first race over the 5 km distance. Mark walked superb to win the u23 title just outside of 25 mins, with Tim Healy taking the silver medal in 28.31.
In the 1500m Craig Murphy took on his great friend and rival Niall Tuohy from Ferrybank. In his first 1500m race of the season Craig recorded a time of 4.03 with Niall winning in an impressive 3.56. New Togher athlete Kieran Ryan battled hard in the 1500m and was rewarded with the silver medal .
In the u23 section Shane Coffey and Peter Fennell took part in the 3,000m event with Peter taking the gold medal in the u23 section and Shane finishing 4th in the Junior race. The mens 400m was a cracker with Liam O’ Brien and Kieran Ware battling it out down the home straight, with Liam taking the u23 title on the line in a time of 49.41 and Kieran the silver medal in 49.44. Liam’s time was a new championship best performance. The mens 800m was ran at a very fast early pace and resulted with Ian Tivy taking the bronze medal in the u23 section with a time of 2.01. Conor Sheehy won the u23 triple jump with an effort of 13.02.
