National Senior & Junior Cross-Country championships

Date: 7/3/10

It was another successful weekend for the club on the competition front, with our athletes competing at the National Senior & Junior Inter Clubs Cross-Country championships in Dublin and at the Munster u14-u19 Indoor T&F championships in Nenagh.

The National Senior & Junior Cross-Country championships were held in the Phoenix Park in ideal conditions. The course was firm with some rolling hills. It was a historic day for the club, fielding their first ever team in a national senior inter clubs championships. The senior mens race was held over 12km and Eoin O Sullivan produced an outstanding run to come 29th. Donal Coakley ran very well for 55th and with other great runs from Pa Murphy 61st and Dan Weaver 81st the team finished a creditable 7th out of 16 teams. The club plans to be more competitive next year sending two strong junior & senior teams to the championships.

At the Munster u14-u19 Indoor T&F championships in Nenagh, Rob O Neill competed in the u18 boys walk and won easily with a great new PB. Rob has his sights firmly focused on the All-Ireland Schools championships in June so will no doubt continue to improve over the coming months.

Next weekend sees the clubs young athletes compete at the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country championships at Cork IT. They will represent Douglas CS and Colaiste Daibheid. All the athletes are in good form after completing their last workout on the course on Friday. We wish them all the very best of luck next Saturday.

Robert Heffernan also competes next weekend in Switzerland after a very successful altitude training camp in South Africa recently. Robs main focus is on the European championships in Barcelona at the end of July.
