Munster Cross-Country championships day 2

Date: 7/11/10

Togher athletes travelled to Charleville Co. Cork for day 2 of the Munster Cross-Country championships with races being run for the uneven ages and intermediate athletes. The course was very well layed out and proved to be popular amongst the athletes.

The boys u13 team lined up in their first ever Munster championships and ran very well to finish 8th team with Ruairi Casey leading them home in 20th place and other great runs came from David Smith, Daniel Burke and Ronan Dwane.

The u15 boys team were without two of their scoring four athletes but battled well to a 4th place finish and a place at the All-Irelands in Tullamore in December. Alan Ring ran a great race for 16th and other great races came from James Gorton 26th, Jamie O Connell 27th, Liam Harris 30th, Fionn Bracken 31st and Daniel Leahy 33rd.

The u17 boys team were without their number one athlete Ian Hartnett due to injury and finished joint 1st team but lost on countback to Clonmel AC. Emmet Bracken led the team home with a superb 2nd place finish, with Ian Tobin 11th and Billy Murphy 12th. No doubt the team will bounce back in 6 weeks time and try and regain their All-Ireland team title.

The u19 boys dominated the 7000m race with Danny Mullins taking a superb win with Peter Hanrahan 2nd, Patrick Coleman 3rd, Cullen Lynch 5th and Brian Murray 11th. The A team came 1st and the B team came 2nd.

Finally in the intermediate mens 8000m race Shane Coffey continued his recent fine form with a great 6th place finish and Donal Coakley also having a great run for 7th. Sean O Keeffe also ran well for 32nd place. Well done to all the athletes on some fine performances.
