East Cork 3km Road Race Midleton

Togher athletes headed east to Midleton to take part in the latest leg of its 3km road series. Weather conditions were not conducive to fast times with extreme cold and wind the order of the night. The course was a testing one with some tough climbs and it was held over 3 laps. Elton Heffernan younger brother of Robert, finished a very good 3rd recording a time of 10.12. Robert also competed covering the 3km course in a highly respectful 11.30. He now departs for Spain for a 10 day training camp in Alicante before returning to compete at the National Senior Indoor Championships in Belfast. Performance of the night came from Tim Healy who recorded a massive new personal best with a superb walk timed at 14.44. Congratulations to Timmy and his coach Robert. A mention is also deserved of Dermot Murphy (a potential new Togher athlete) who regularly helps Robert on his training spins. Dermot had a great run finishing in a time of 11.52.
Congratulations also to Colin Merritt who finished 3rd in the annual Mallow 10 mile road race last Sunday recording a time of 53.29. Colin is in great form of late and hopefully he will be available for the club team for the National Intermediate Cross-Country Championships to be held on February 10th.
Best of luck to all the clubs athletes competing in the AAI Games in Nenagh on Sunday and also to Craig Murphy who competes for Ireland at the Celtic International Cross-Country Championships in Edinburgh on Saturday.
