Togher athletes head for warmer climates this week to continue their preparations for the up coming track & field season. Robert Heffernan heads to South Africa for a 4 week training block at altitude continuing his preparations for the world championships in August. Coach Steven Macklin travels to Portugal with 17 junior athletes for their annual warm weather training camp in Monte Gordo.
It has been a superb cross-country season for the clubs junior athletes with the club winning two All-Ireland Cross-Country team titles u16 & u17 before Christmas, Craig Murphy competing at the European Cross-Country championships in Belgium, Douglas CS winning the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country Intermediate team title and three athletes Peter Hanrahan, Patrick Coleman and Ian Hartnett all representing Ireland at the Schools International Cross-Country event in Wales. All the younger athletes will surely benefit from the training camp and will come back motivated and ready to run many personal bests in the coming months.
