All-Ireland u12-u18, junior & senior Cross-Country championships

Togher athletes travelled to Derry to take part in the All-Ireland u12-u18, junior & senior Cross-Country championships at the weekend. Held in snowy conditions it proved to be a weekend to remember for the club winning the u18 boys team title and finishing 5th team u14, 4th team u16 and Cork getting 2nd in the junior and senior mens team races.
A group of 32 from the club travelled to Derry for day 1 of the All-Ireland Cross-Country championships on Sunday. The course was in Gransha park in Derry covered in a blanket of snow. Conditions were testing at times but underfoot conditions were good. The u14 boys were first into action racing over 3000m. The team were without their number one runner this season in Liam Harris but battled on to record a superb 5th place finish. Captain Jack O Mahony led the team home with a superb 20th place and other great runs came from James Gorton 40th, Luke Varian 44th, Ruairi Casey 59th and Barry Forde 83rd.
The u16 boys raced over 4000m and here Billy Murphy continued his great improvement finishing 17th having finished 42nd last year. Eoin Bourke had his best race of the year to finish 32nd and the team was completed by super runs from Brendan Couch, John Durcan and Jamie O Connell.
The u18 boys race was combined with the junior race and it proved to be fast from the start. Danny Mullins led the club home with a superb 8th place finish and with cracking runs from Patrick Coleman 10th, Cullen Lynch 15th and Emmet Bracken 16th the club retained the team title easily. Other great runs came from Ian Tobin, Mark Seacy, Peter Hanrahan, Cillian Fleming, Dave Kelly, Jamie Sullivan, Rob Long and Adam Kelleher. Cork won the u18 county title also and Cork were 2nd in the junior county battle.
Finally in the senior mens 10000m, Eoin O Sullivan led the club home in a great 44th with Shane Coffey a superb 49th & 8th u23 athlete and Donal Coakley a great 52nd.
Well done to all the athletes on some superb racing.
