Race Round-up
Date: 28/4/10
In the past few days Togher athletes competed at the BHAA "Stride by the Tide" 4 Mile race, the Penn Relays in America and at the Inter Varsity T&F championships in Dublin, producing some great results.
At the BHAA beach run in Youghal, Eoin O Sullivan continued his fine recent form with a great win in 21.31 with other great runs by Donal Coakley 4th 22.54 and Shane Coffey 6th 22.59.
At the Penn Relays in America, Craig Murphy Iona college toed the line in the college mens 5000m. Craig is in great shape but had the misfortune of losing a spike after a few laps and had to stop and put it on. He ended up 60-70m off the back of the field but put in a 2.10 800m to catch back on to the group. This however took its toll and he faded towards the end but still ran a creditable 14.35. He races another 5km in 2 weeks and will no doubt bounce back.
At the Irish University T&F championships in Santry Liam O Brien had two solid runs in the 100m and 200m. Performance of the day came from Tim Healy who won a superb silver medal in the mens 3km walk in a time of 12.59.19. Congratulations also to Ronan Duggan DCU who won a sliver medal in the 800m and is coached by Toghers Steven Macklin.
The next action sees our young athletes compete at the Cork u14-u19 T&F next Sunday, with the Munster Junior, u23 & Senior T&F championships taking place on Monday at Cork IT. Best of luck to all competing.
