Dublin Graded series
Date: 27/6/07
On Wednesday June 27th seven Togher athletes and Ronan Duggan of Bandon AC made the journey to Dublin for the latest round of the Dublin Graded series. The races were held at a cold and blustery Irishtown Stadium in Ringsend. First up was Ronan Duggan in the mens development 800m B race. Ronan ran extremely well but found himself having to push the pace from 300m to go and running into a strong wind. Ronan was passed with 50m to go but held on strong to run 1.58 for 2nd place.
The mens 3,000m C race had four Togher athletes in it with Richard Quirke working his way through the field to eventually finish 2nd in a new PB of 9.53. David O’ Keeffe followed him home in 7th place in a great new PB of 10.03, knocking 20 secs off his previous best. Craig Harrington also ran a new PB coming 9th in 10.23 and Alex Kelly just narrowly outside his best in 11.46. In the mens B 3,000m Shane Coffey and Peter Fennell were hoping to produce new PB’s having run bests over 1500m in previous weeks. Going through the opening lap in 72 secs, they were at the back of the field. However this did not deter them as the gradually worked their way through the field. Both athletes showed tremendous courage over the final 800m and were rewarded with new personal bests. Peter finished 5th in a time of 9.26 and Shane 7th in 9.29.
The final race of the night was the mens A 3,000m. 18 athletes towed the line including some well-established names such as Brian Farrell (Stoneybrook College), Richard Yeats (Providence) and Mick Clohisey. This did not phase Craig Murphy as he settled mid pack for the first 2 laps sheltering from the wind. Craig ran a very solid race picking off athletes throughout and finishing his last 600m in 1.40 suggests that there is more to come in the next few weeks. He eventually finished in 4th place in a new personal best time of 8.35. Brian Farrell won the race in 8.27. All in all a great nights running from all the Togher athletes and a special thanks to the Dublin County Board on a wonderful nights racing.
