Togher athlete Robert Heffernan continued his rich vein of form with a superb 5th place finish at the latest leg of the IAAF Race Walking challenge in Poland. Held in the Polish town of Krakow, Robert produced another superb performance finishing in 5th place with the race being won by Mexican athlete Eder Sanchez. Robert is in great form at present recording an impressive time of 1.20.34 and all points in the right direction for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
In Rehlingen in Germany Craig Murphy opened up his season over 3000m, but unfortunately he picked up a bout of food poisoning and struggled to a 12th place finish in 8.35. The race was won in 7.52 by Edwin Kipkorir of Kenya.
The Munster Senior T&F championships also took place at the weekend in Castleisland Co. Kerry. Peter Fennell and Kieran Ryan took part in the 5000m and ran well and Liam O’ Brien came a very good 2nd in the u23 400m.
