Inter Varsity Cross-Country Championships
Date: 24/2/07
The 2007 Inter Varsity Cross-Country championships were held in a wet Athlone IT on Saturday 24th February. Togher athletes were out in force representing UCC and CIT. Athletes had one 1,000m lap followed by six 1500m laps on a demanding course. The mens race was won in a convincing manner by Joe Sweeney of UCD, with UCD also winning the team title from DCU. Peter Fennell UCC looked good for a top 30 finish going out on the last lap, but a severe stitch caused him to slow considerably and eventually finished in 38th position. Just behind him Shane Coffey UCC battled well in his first ever race over the 10k distance and was rewarded with a solid 40th place finish. Ian Tivy representing CIT continued his comeback from a shin injury with a strong performance and he was followed in by good runs from Mark Dineen CIT and Stephen Lynch CIT. Togher athletes helped UCC come 4th in the team event with CIT finishing a solid 7th.
