Well done to all the athletes on a great start to the season. Full results are below.
Also today, Robert Heffernan competed in the final of the IAAF Race Walking Challenge in Murcia. This was to be his final race of the season and what a way to finish it turned out to be. Robert lay in 8th place overall in the series going into the race and was hoping for a solid placing in the final event held over 20km. The race held at 1pm local time, saw the thermometer reach 33 degrees and added to this was high humidity. Robert produced an outstanding display to finish in 5th place in a time of 1:26:04. Robert described the race as being “extremely tough” but was delighted with his performance. The race was won by Roberts training partner Francisco Fernandez in 1:23:14. After the final standings were tallied up Robert finishes the series in a superb 7th place. He has had an outstanding season and he can now relax for a few weeks before planning for next years World Championships in Berlin. Congratulations to Robert from all at the club.
