Togher athletes opened up their season at the annual Leevale open sports on Sunday at the Mardyke. Held in beautiful sunshine there was a large turnout from all over Munster and indeed Leinster. In the juvenile races Alan Ring dominated the boys u14 800m winning in a superb 2.26 in his first ever track race. Eoin Bourke did likewise in the boys u15 800m winning easily with Billy Murphy 3rd. In the u16 800m Ian Hartnett was a fine 3rd and Emmet Bracken 4th.
In the senior and junior races Tony Kelleher was a fine 6th in the 3000m with Rob O Shea also running well. The performance of the day came in the senior 1500m from Peter Fennell who ran a big PB in 2nd with 4.09. Patrick Coleman ran a PB also with 4.23. In the sprints Liam O Brien ran well in the 400m with 51.70 and Ronan Foley ran well also in both the 100m and 200m.
Next weekend sees Togher athletes compete in the Inter Varsity T+F championships in UL
