Cork T&F u14-u19
Date: 2/5/09
The clubs athletes had a very successful outing at the 1st day of the Cork u14-u19 T&F championships today. Held at sunny Cork IT there was a slight breeze but overall conditions were good for the athletes and indeed the spectators.
First into action were our steeplechasers in the u17 boys 1500m event. Here all three athletes were taking part in the event for the first time. Patrick Coleman ran a superb race to lead from gun to tape winning in a quick 4.49. Behind him Mark Seacy ran great to take the silver medal and John Dorgan took a fine 4th.
The clubs athletes dominated the 1500m races winning a total of 12 medals. First up was Alan Ring in the u14 race and after a slow opening 2 laps Alan took the lead and never looked back winning the title in style. In the u15 race Billy Murphy set the pace with Eoin Bourke also helping out. Eoin went on to finish a great 2nd with Billy a superb 3rd. Other great runs came from Daniel Leahy, Brendan Couch, Eric O Neill and Conor Cronin. The u16 race was a battle between three Togher athletes Ian Hartnett, Ian Tobin and Emmet Bracken. Ian Hartnett won the battle leading the whole way winning easily in 4.35 with Emmet a superb 2nd in 4.38 and Ian Tobin 3rd in 4.42. Andrew O Keeffe also ran well to finish 4th. Cullen Lynch set a blistering pace in the u17 1500m covering the first 400m in 64 secs and through 800m in 2.08.
