South Munsters T&F

The first day of the South Munster Schools T&F championships took place today at Cork IT and the clubs athletes had a hugely successful day. Weather conditions could have been better with some showers and a strong breeze at times.
First into action were the 800m runners with the club represented in all races. Alan Ring produced yet another outstanding performance taking the silver medal in the minor race. Behind him other great runs came from Brendan Couch, Eric O Neill and Conor Cronin. In the junior 800m Irish international Ian Hartnett representing Colaiste Daibheid led from gun to tape to win easily in a new PB of 2.12. Eoin Bourke representing Douglas CS produced a superb effort to come 3rd with a huge new PB of 2.19. Others to run well were Billy Murphy and Mike McLaughlin who both ran new PBs also. In the inter 800m Patrick Coleman stepped down in distance to work on his speed and ran very well to come 2nd with a new PB also. Behind him more Douglas CS athletes battled it out with Emmet Bracken a superb 3rd in a huge new PB of 2.10. Other great runs came from Mark Seacy 4th, David Kelly 5th, Rob O Neill 6th, Conor Foley 7th and John Dorgan 8th with all running new PBs. Finally the senior 800m proved to be most entertaining with the athletes running tactically with a 75 sec opening lap. The slow pace continued until 200m to go with Mike O Sullivan winning the sprint, Brian Murray 3rd, Conor O Brien 5th, Alan O Brien 6th and Rob Long 8th.
Finally the 3000m took place with the senior & inter boys all running together. Here Peter Hanrahan dominated the race easily running away from the field winning in 9.27. Behind him Rob O Shea took silver in the senior race with Sean Barry a fine 3rd. Cullen Lynch Douglas CS took a fine bronze in the inter race with Ian Tobin 4th, Cillian Fleming 5th, Andrew O Keeffe 6th and Jamie Sullivan 7th. All athletes one again ran personal bests.
