Munster Senior & Junior Indoor T&F championships

Togher athletes headed to Nenagh today for the Munster Senior & Junior Indoor T&F championships. The club with some superb performances had a very successful day. Tim Healy continued his recent impressive form with a win in the 5km walk recording a new personal best of 25.22 in the process. Three Togher athletes took part in the 3,000m with Kieran Ryan coming 4th in 9.28 and Shane Coffey 5th in 9.47 in the senior race. Craig Harrington had a good run in the junior 3,000m coming 4th place. Alan O’ Brien lined up in the mens junior 800m taking part in his first race of the season. He finished a creditable 4th place.
The clubs sprinters were in super form with Marian Andrews coming 2nd in both the 60m and the 200m recording times of 8.05 and 25.45 respectively. She now heads for Belfast next week taking part in her preferred event the 400m. Ronan Foolkes recorded a new indoor personal best in the 400m with a time of 52.24 in the heats and Kevin Walsh also ran fast with a 51.58 clocking. In the final Kevin led at the bell and went on to record a fine win with Ronan coming 4th. Eoin Joyce rounded off a very successful day for the club in winning the mens senior 200m in a time of 23.45 after finishing 2nd in his heat. All in all a very successful outing for the sprints group and a special congratulations is deserved of coach’s Frank Doherty and John Hayes.
The focus now switches to the National Senior Indoor T&F championships being held in the Odyssey arena Belfast on 26th/27th January. The South Munster Schools Cross-Country championships take place on Friday next with all the clubs juveniles taking part. Also next weekend Craig Murphy travels to Belgium to take part in an international cross-country race in Hannut. Best of luck to all the clubs athletes next weekend.
