St Patricks Day
Date: 18/3/09
Togher athletes were out in force on St. Patricks day competing at the annual St Patricks day dash in Cork City and the Rising Sun 4 mile road race in Ballinhassig.
Marian Andrews fresh from her brilliant performances in Turin at the European Indoor championships won the womens 60m dash in the city centre, retaining her title from last year. Marian also recently was awarded with the Evening Echo womens sportstar of the month award for February.
On the roads, Togher athletes headed for Ballinhassig taking on the very tough 4 mile course. The athletes had to contend with long climbs and a strong wind for much of the race. Elton Heffernan put in an outstanding run to finish 2nd and with Donal Coakley 8th and Tadgh OCallaghan 9th it was a successful day for the club. Further afield Shane Coffey finished 5th at a 6km road race held in Croom Co. Limerick.
