Weekend Report
Date: 18/2/09
Togher athletes had another busy weekend competing at the Inter Varsity Indoor T&F championships in Nenagh, a 10km International Race Walking event in Spain, the National Intermediate Cross-Country in Dublin and the BHAA Cross-Country in Cork.
There was high hopes of a team title for our Intermediate Cross-Country team in Tymon park Dublin on Sunday. However it was a mixed bag of fortunes for the team as they found the competition difficult, all except for Mauro Lanfranchi who had a super run finishing 3rd despite almost missing the start. This was Mauro`s 3rd race in Ireland and again underlined his huge ability. There were other good runs from Eoin O Sullivan, Elton Heffernan, Peter Fennell, Joe Kingsbery, Donal Coakley and club captain Tadhg O' Callaghan who has put in a lot of good work in putting this team together.
Robert Heffernan was in action in Guadix Spain this weekend finishing 2nd in an international 10 km race walk. Robert is out there on a three week training stint.
At the Intervaristy Indoor T&F championships in Nenagh Tim Healy continued his good form by coming second in the the 5km walk. Also in action was Tony Kelleher who ran very well in the 800m heats narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
At the BHAA 5km cross-country race in Beaumont on Sunday Shane Coffey finished a creditable 9th.
Next weekend sees Marian Andrews competing an an International Indoor event in Cardiff and some of the younger athletes competing at the Ras na hEireann International Cross-Country event in Co. Louth. Best of luck to all.
