Munster Schools T&F championships
Date: 16/5/09
Togher athletes travelled to the University of Limerick on Saturday for the Munster Schools T&F championships. Held in wet and windy conditions, athletes and spectators found the going tough. Togher athletes were representing their schools Douglas CS, Colaiste Daibheid and Colaiste an Spioraid Naomh.
First into action were our walkers with Michael McLaughlin coming 4th in the junior boys race and Robert O Neill 2nd and Cillian Fleming 3rd in the inter race. In the inter steeplechase Patrick Coleman came a fine 2nd with Mark Seacy 4th. In the inter 3000m Peter Hanrahan ran a new PB of 9.16 to come 2nd and in the senior 5000m Rob O Shea was a fine 3rd with Sean Barry 6th. Alan Ring battled hard to a 6th place finish in the minor 800m and Eoin Bourke did likewise in the junior 800m coming a superb 4th. In the senior 800m Brian Murray ran well to finish 4th also. Continuing the run of 4th place finishes Cullen Lynch finished 4th in the inter 1500m and Conor O Brien 5th in the senior 1500m. In the u16 mile Ian Tobin was a great 2nd and Emmet Bracken 3rd. Performance of the day came from Ian Hartnett in the junior 1500m where he battled with Sean Tobin from Clonmel. Ian who only took up running last September has improved by the week. In his first ever track season he continues to improve with every race. On Saturday he again lowered his PB to 4.24, narrowly loosing out to Sean Tobin the All-Ireland Schools cross-country runner up.
All in all a very successful day for the club. The athletes now look forward to the All-Ireland Schools T&F championships in Tullamore on May 30th.
