All-Ireland u14-u19 T&F Championships

Togher athletes had a great weekend at the All-Ireland u14-u19 T&F Championships in Tullamore taking home two medals and recording 8 new personal bests. The weather was testing with rain showers and wind the order of the weekend. On Saturday Patrick Coleman and Mark Seacy lined up in the u17 1500m steeplechase and Patrick had another fine run to take 2nd in a new PB, with Mark producing a great run also to place 5th in a new PB also. On Sunday it was the turn of the 800m and 3000m athletes. First up was Eoin Bourke in the u15 800m and he finished a very creditable 8th out of 15 athletes in a new PB. In the u16 800m Ian Hartnett moved down a distance to work on his speed and ran a solid race to finish 8th just outside his PB. The u18 800m was a very tactical affair with all the athletes closely bunched through 350m, before Cathal O Connor Dooneen AC made a jump on the field and had a 15m lead on the rest of the field before they reacted. Brian Murray and Michael O Sullivan gave chase but ran out of track as Brian ran a great PB of 2.00 to finish 2nd with Mike 3rd in 2.00 also. Peter Hanrahan ran a great race also to come 6th in a new PB of 2.02. Finally in the u19 800m Alan O Brien lined up in a tough field but ran the race of his life to finish 4th in a new PB of 2.04. In the 3000m, Patrick Coleman was 8th, Cullen Lynch 9th in a new PB, Marrk Seacy 13th and John Dorgan 15th. In the u16 race Andrew O Keeffe had a fine run to finish 11th.
Togher athletes also took to the roads this week in the Corkbeg 5 Mile road race on Thursday. Eoin O Sullivan led the team home in 4th place 26.36, with Shane Coffey 7th 27.23, Donal Coakley 11th 28.20 and Dan Weaver 15th 29.19.
Togher athletes next compete at the Dublin Graded meet in Santry on Wednesday, the Schools International T&F in Antrim Saturday and the All-Ireland u14-u19 T&F Day 4 in Tullamore on Sunday. Best of luck to all.
