Cork Cross-Country championships, Carrig na Bhfear

Togher athletes continued their remarkable start to the Cross-Country season at the 2nd leg of the Cork Cross-Country championships held today in Carrig na Bhfear. Today it was the turn of the juvenile uneven ages and the novice races. First into action for the club was the Novice men’s team with the team finishing a creditable 3rd. There were good runs from Tony Kelleher, Peter Fennell, Donal Coakley and Shane Coffey.

In the juvenile races Togher again dominated winning 3 individual titles and 3 team titles. The u13 boys team of Alan Ring, Stephen Murphy, Dylan Black and Ciaran Devine were a creditable 4th with captain Alan Ring having a great race finishing 6th.

The u15 race over 2000m was dominated by the club with 7 athletes inside the top 10. Ian Tobin led the race from the start and won in style taking his first ever county title. James Kelleher had a superb run for 2nd place and was backed up by great runs from Emmet Bracken 4th, Ian Hartnett 5th and Andrew O’ Keeffe 6th. The ‘A’ team finished 1st and the ‘B’ team were 2nd.

Peter Hanrahan and Patrick Coleman set the pace in the u17 4000m race with Peter eventually pulling away to win after a great battle between the two. Peter added the u17 title to the u18 title he won last week. Brian Murray had his first race of the season coming a great 4th and with Rob O’ Shea a superb 6th, Togher easily won the team title. Other notable runs came from Sean Barry, Cullen Lynch, John Dorgan and Mark Seacy. The ‘B’ team came 2nd and the ‘C’ team came 3rd.

The u19 race over 6000m was won easily by Adam Kelleher winning his first ever county title also. Togher filled the next nine places with super runs from Richard Quirke 2nd, Dave O’ Keeffe 3rd, Alan O’ Brien 4th, Cormac Lehane 5th, Padraig Sweeney 6th, Rob Long 7th, Alex Kelly 8th, Peter Bourke 9th and Charlie Leahy 10th. Togher finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the team event.

Congratulations to all the young athletes on their superb performances over the last two weekends winning all the team titles from u14-u19. Next up for the club is the Munster u12-u18 & Novice Cross-Country Championships in Tipperary next Sunday.
