Douglas Community School 1st year Cross-Country league

The 1st round of the Douglas Community School 1st year Cross-Country league took place this week with each of the four 1st year classes tackling the 950m course. With over 90 students taking part there were 40 places available for the "A" Final later in the week. In the NC1 race Colm Daly had a fine win with Bartlomniei Tczeciak 2nd and Ryan McCarthy 3rd. In the NO1 race Darragh O Shaughnessy had a great win with Eoin O Riordan 2nd and Peter Froggatt 3rd. Jamie O Connell won the NT1 race in style with Alan Horgan 2nd and Eric Fahy 3rd. Finally in the NU1 race Jack O Mahony won with Liam Harris 2nd and Kevin Horan 3rd. It proved to be a great days racing and introduced all the new 1st year students to cross-country running . The school now has a very proud tradition in athletics having won the best overall school award at Munster level the last 5 years and last year winning the All-Ireland Schools u17 Cross-Country team title. Many of these young 1st year students will hopefully go on to become future stars and carry on that tradition.
