South Munster Schools T&F championships 2nd leg

The busy start to the track & field season continued at the weekend with Togher athletes competing at the 2nd day of the South Munster Schools T&F championships and the Cork Senior T&F championships both held at Cork IT.
It was another very successful day at the South Munsters with Douglas CS and Colaiste an Spioraid Naomh winning plenty of medals. In the walks Rob O Neill had an easy win in the Inter race with Cillian Fleming a fine 2nd. In the junior race Gary McCarthy won with Mike McLaughlin 2nd. Patrick Coleman continued his recent winning streak taking the inter boys 1500m steeplechase title with ease with Mark Seacy a fine 4th, John Dorgan 5th and Andrew O Keeffe 6th. In the 400m Alan O Brien came 3rd in the senior race with Sean Barry 4th. Ian Tobin produced an outstanding run in the boys u16 mile winning in 4.54 with Emmet Bracken 2nd and Jamie Sullivan 3rd. Finally in the 1500m races Ian Hartnett continued his superb start to the season running a solo 4.29 to win the junior race with Eoin Bourke a fine 4th in a huge new PB of 4.46. In the inter race Peter Hanrahan was 2nd with Cullen Lynch 3rd. In the senior race Brian Murray won in a new PB of 4.16 and Conor O Brien was a superb 3rd. In the senior 2km steeplechase Rob O Shea had a fine win with David O Keeffe 2nd.
At the Cork Senior championships Tony Kelleher was the clubs only competitor racing in the 800m. Tony produced a fine run in windy conditions to come 4th just outside his PB.
Next action for the club will be the Munster Schools T&F championships which take place in UL next Saturday. Best of luck to all competing.
