Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships

Togher athletes competed in the Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships last weekend in St Augustines College Dungarvan. The Togher athletes competed for Douglas Community School. The first 3 teams in each race qualified for the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country to be held in DCU on March 3rd. The Minor team got proceedings underway with a great 3rd place finish. Mark O’ Sullivan had a superb run in 10th place, followed closely by Ian Tobin in 11th. Andrew O’ Keeffe, Cillian Fleming, Robert O’ Neill, Conor Foley and David Kelly all ran well. The Junior team raced over a distance of 3,500m and were rewarded with a 3rd place finish. Peter Hanrahan had an outstanding run in 6th place and others to impress were Shaun Healy, Cullen Lynch, David Broughal, Eoin Cremin and Rob Lyons. The Inter team was without the services of Michael Carroll missing through illness, but they produced a massive effort to come 1st. Richard Quirke led the team home in a fantastic 10th place. He was ably assisted by Adam Kelleher, Mark Tobin, Alan O’ Brien, Brian Murray and David O’ Keeffe. The Senior race over 6,500m was won by the very talented David McCarthy from Waterford. Craig Murphy led the Douglas team home in 2nd place. The team came 2nd and Matthew Murphy, Brian Collins, Craig Harrington and Daniel Stout all ran well. James Fennell ran well also competing for Ballincollig Community School. Douglas CS also won the best overall school cup and now look forward to the All-Ireland Championships on March 3rd in DCU.
