This weekend was all about receiving awards for Togher athletes as they attended the Munster AAI Sports Star awards and the Evening Echo Ladies Sports Star of the Year award ceremonies.
Marian Andrews was among 12 ladies in Cork chosen to attend the Evening Echo Sports Star awards held at the Rochestown Pak Hotel recently. Marian was the June monthly winner received for her outstanding performances on the track last summer. She did not however receive the overall award but can be proud of being in the mix for it.
Several club members attended the Munster AAI Sports Star awards held in Blarney on Saturday night. The club received numerous accolades with Robert Heffernan and Mauro Lanfranchi both receiving individual awards for their great performances during the year. The club also received the best juvenile cross-country award and juvenile captain Alex Kelly received this on behalf of the club. Finally Ted Murray was inducted into the hall of fame for his outstanding service to athletics in Cork and Munster throughout his lifetime. This was well deserved for Ted and we all hope that he continues his good work.
At the Leinster Open Indoor T&F today in Nenagh, Marian Andrews competed in the women’s 400m. Marian ran the race solo winning easily in a fast 55.78. She now competes at the National Senior Indoor T&F championships next weekend in great form.
