It was another successful weekend for Togher athletes as Craig Murphy had a fantastic 4th place finish in the Gateshead International Cross-Country event in England and Robert Heffernan was named Race Walker of the year at the Athletics Ireland National Awards night in Dublin.

9^th of November

Togher athletes continued their superb Cross-Country season winning three more team titles at the 2nd leg of the Munster Cross-Country championships at a wet and wintry Co. Clare venue today. Conditions at Cooraclare were appalling to say the least. The athletes were faced with a very testing course that was covered in mud and add to that strong winds and rain.

Togher athletes took to the road at the weekend running in the BHAA 4 mile road race on Sunday. Held of the flat Marina circuit the club had roughly ten athletes take part.

Togher athletes recorded another fantastic set of results at the Munster Even Age & Novice Cross-Country championships held in Turnpike Co. Tipperary. The course proved to be a testing one with a strong wind and some mucky patches.

Togher athletes continued their remarkable start to the Cross-Country season at the 2nd leg of the Cork Cross-Country championships held today in Carrig na Bhfear, where it was the turn of the juvenile uneven ages and the novice races.

Togher athletes had a busy schedule this weekend competing at the Cork Cross-Country Championships in Carrigadrohid, an international Race-Walking meet in Switzerland and at the Rathfarnham 5km road race in Dublin.

Togher junior athletes traveled to Banna Beach Co. Kerry for their pre season training camp at the weekend. A group of 45 athletes travelled and a very enjoyable time was had by all.

21^st of September

Togher athletes had a very successful day at the Kinsale Open Cross-Country event. With many of the older Togher junior athletes concentrating on training, the younger guys travelled to Kinsale and came away with all the team titles.

Also today, Robert Heffernan competed in the final of the IAAF Race Walking Challenge in Murcia. His successful race placed him in 7th place of the series as a whole, just reward for a great season.

14^th of September

With the Cross-Country season edging closer, Togher athletes are back into training and looking forward to the challenges ahead. Coach Steven Macklin has been delighted with the dedication and positive attitudes shown by all the athletes. The Junior athletes head for Banna beach in two weeks for a pre season training camp and will open up their season at the Cork championships on October 5th. Training times are as follows:

• Tuesdays 6.30pm at Mardyke Track
• Fridays 6.30pm at Togher Clubhouse
• Sundays 12pm at Douglas Community School Pe Hall

17^th of August

In the early hours of this morning, Togher athlete Robert Heffernan competed in the 20km race walk event in the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games. He had a superb walk, still in the top group with 5km left and eventually getting in the top ten with an eighth place finish.
