Douglas CS win All-Ireland Schools XC Senior team title & Ian Hartnett to captain Irish team!

Ian Hartnett captained the Irish team to a great 2nd place finish at the SIAB Schools International Cross-Country Championships held at a sunny Greenmount College Co. Antrim at the weekend. Ian was the 1st Irish man home in 11th place.

Robert Heffernan and Tony Kelleher flew the clubs flag in Europe this weekend with some superb performances. Robert competed in the Lugano Trophy European Race Walking permit meeting and finished a great 5th in his season opener with a 20km time of 1.20.53 in a tough field. Tony competed at the European Masters Indoor athletics championships in Belgium and finished 10th in a new indoor PB for the 1500m of 4.14. Well done to both on some great performances.

It was an unbelievable day for the club at the All Ireland Schools XC Championships on Saturday with Douglas CS winning the senior boys team title, the junior boys winning team silver and Ian Hartnett finishing 2nd in the inter race and will now captain the Irish Schools team in 2 weeks time.

Togher athletes competed at the National Senior & Junior Inter Clubs Cross-Country championships in Dublin at the weekend bringing home some team medals in the senior race and a 4th place finish in junior race. Ian Hartnett got a great silver medal at the English AAA Indoor championships and Marian Heffernan received a call up to the Irish team to compete at the European Indoor championships in Paris next weekend.

Togher athletes competed at the National Senior Indoor T&F championships in Belfast at the weekend and it proved to be very successful with Robert Heffernan and Marian Heffernan both winning gold medals and some other good performances from Tim Healy and Ronan Foley.

18th of February

Togher athletes competed at the Munster Schools & Varsity Cross-Country championships today at Cork IT and produced some outstanding displays. Douglas CS had all 4 teams minor, junior, inter and senior qualify for the All-Ireland championships and both Danny Mullins and Ian Hartnett won individual silver medals in the senior and inter races. Douglas CS also retained the best overall school cup for the 7th consecutive year.

Togher athletes had another busy week competing at the National Intermediate Cross-Country championships in Dublin and at the Scottish Indoor 3000m championships in Glasgow. The mens team finished 6th at the National Intermediate Cross-Country and Ian Hartnett, Danny Mullins and Billy Murphy all won medals in Glasgow at Scottish 3000m Indoor championships.

Togher athletes had another superb weekend competing at the National 30km Race Waking championships in Cork, the Dungarvan 10 mile road race and at an International Indoor T&F meet in Slovakia. Robert Heffernan broke the national 30km record and his wife Marian won the 400m with ease in Slovakia.

Togher athletes continued their fantastic start to 2011 with some superb performances at the South Munster Schools Cross-Country championships at Cork IT today. Douglas CS won 3 team titles & best overall school cup while Ian Hartnett and Peter Hanrahan had superb individual wins with James Gorton, Danny Mullins and Liam Harris taking individual silver medals also.

It was a hugely successful weekend for the club with athletes competing at the Antrim International XC in Greenmount College and in the AAI Indoor Games & National Masters Indoor championships in Nenagh. The club won two sets of team medals in Antrim u17 & u20, Tony Kelleher won National Masters Indoor 1500m gold and Marian Heffernan won a superb double gold in Nenagh 200m & 400m with Tim Healy taking a bronze medal in the 3km walk.

Togher athletes began their 2011 season with a trip to Tullamore for the All-Ireland u11-u19 & Novice Cross-Country championships. The club had a successful day with the mens novice team finishing in 5th place.

Togher athletes competed on the double at Cork IT on Friday, competing at the Cork Schools Invitational Cross-Country and the Floodlight Cross-Country. The clubs athletes did very well at both events dominating the top 10 in each.

Togher athletes travelled to Derry to take part in the All-Ireland u12-u18, junior & senior Cross-Country championships at the weekend. Held in snowy conditions it proved to be a weekend to remember for the club winning the u18 boys team title and finishing 5th team u14, 4th team u16 and Cork getting 2nd in the junior and senior mens team races.

About the Club
Togher AC Logo Togher Athletics Club is an athletics club based in Cork City that was founded in 1966. The club is based in Togher but also trains regularly in Maradyke Arena track in the city. Directions and membership information can be found in the membership section.
The New Website
The Togher AC website was given a face lift recently. Content is still in the same sections, however the photo albums are now organized by year.
